Deer. They haz them. I even dreamed about them attacking me in my sleep. No coyote road signs even though they supposedly live around here AND MURDER KITTIES IN THEIR SLEEP. Or so we’re told…

Awww. Ain’t she cute! This is us hanging with our cousin David and his lil girl Emelia (we share the same great grand parents so we must be related somewhere down the line) at his and his wife Kerry’s rad house in Glendale.
We hung out in some studios today with David and met Gary Sinise’s make-up artist. Who was uncannily enough an English dude from Norfolk who wasn’t gay. Cool.

THINGS I LEARNED WHILE DRIVING IN L.A FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY

- In L.A, you exit freeways on the RIGHT. This is quite difficult + can be stressful.

- In L.A, indicating is not necessary when changing lanes on aforementioned freeways. In fact, the faster you merge and the less notice you give the person in front or behind of you, the better.

- In L.A, it takes a minimum of 20mins to get ANYWHERE… even longer when learning to drive on the wrong side of the road and maintaining a polite cruising speed of 50mph.

- In L.A, no matter what radio station you tune to, you will ALWAYS hear Foo Fighters / Nirvana / Red Hot Chili Peppers, and if you’re really lucky, all three one after the other.

- In L.A, it is better when Lauren wears her glasses when navigating from the passenger seat

- In L.A, ALWAYS listen to Glenda the GPS lady. She knows best.

First night in LA.

Yup, after the delay, the perils of sir movesalot, and remembering to drive on the other side of the road, we arrived!!! Woot.

Highland Gardens is a nice spot. The shower is a little cupboardy, but all in all fine. I’m a little reluctant to believe that the great Sigfried & Roy really did stay there. But hey, it was fine for one night.

Pizza and beer at the Roosevelt plus Fleet Foxes on le radio. Totes embel. Decided to walk to the ‘Strip. Yup, was rather long, but we powered on after a pit stop at a grill slash taco place. Seems like most places around here are either grills or taco places. Hmm. Made it to the Cat Club. Happenin’ Harry informed us that he worked with the  Screaming Jets and pretty much promoted all the good venues in LA. He also said he was later playing in a supergroup with Dizzy from GnR and one of the LA Guns. We were, ahem, later informed that he was now known as (Un)Happenin’ Harry but we appreciated his enthusiasm.

Headed to the Rainbow after that. Jeanna - we did you proud. Galaga kept us entertained for a good while, as did some tequila and people who mysteriously looked like they were shagging in a dark nook. Hmmm. Met the (rough) looking lady from Bitch/Witch, and also some other dudes who ran the place who informed us that Alice in Chains wanna get rid of William DuVall. Will investigate this some more. Also met a YSL model who looked more like a BIG W catalogue model that hated LA despite having lived here for 7 years. More tequila followed. Managed to make it home after some weird encounters with a mexican and a dude who looked like Ben Stiller that was a MAC consultant who preferred PCs. Only In LA.

Today was slow, but made it to Melrose today for some shopping and coffee at the Coffee Bean. Oh, and pottered around the Farmers Market for some time.

Thesis over. Until next time. Pics to follow once camera charged.

x
